Starting today, General Motors is starting to sell approved North American Charging Standard (NACS) DC adapters for its electric vehicles. GM originally announced 15 months ago that it would support Tesla’s NACS connector, but to date they have yet to get adapters to market. All models from Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC will be able to use this new adapter.

Previously, GM electric vehicles were not compatible with Tesla Superchargers, as they featured a different proprietary charging port. Those who own these EVs can purchase the adapter for $225 using their vehicle brand’s mobile app. The app can also help owners locate the nearest Supercharger station.

These NACS DC adapters will be available to US customers first, while Canadian EV owners will have to wait until later this year. Moving forward, GM vehicles will now come with a NACS DC adapter, meaning future owners won’t have to pay more than $225 for the ability to recharge. To ensure all GM EV owners can power their vehicles, the company is working with multiple suppliers to provide enough adapters for everyone.

Earlier this year, Ford EV owners began being able to charge their vehicles at Tesla’s Superchargers. Subaru, Hyundai, and basically every other major automaker in the US also made similar announcements last year. According to a Forbes report, it took GM over a year to release the adapters, which may be due to Tesla laying off its entire Supercharger team in April.

Tesla has officially launched the redesigned Model Y in North America and Europe, just weeks after the vehicle was announced for the Asia Pacific region. The new version is not replacing the original Model Y, though – at least not yet – and Tesla is selling both on its website. At the moment, you can only get the long-range all wheel drive Launch Series variant for the new Model Y in the US, which starts at $46,490. The Launch Series is a limited edition release with special badging on the rear liftgate, puddle lights, doorsill plate and other parts of the car.

While the new Model Y retains the proportions of the old version, it has rounded edges, its smaller headlights and taillights bookend a newly designed lightbar. Inside, it has ambient lighting around most of the car, ventilated seats and a 15.4-inch touchscreen up front. The second-row seats have power recline and can be folded flat. Back-row passengers will also get access to a Bluetooth-enabled 8-inch rearscreen display with touch panel.

The new long-range all-wheel drive Model Y has an estimated range of 325 miles, has a top speed of 125 mph and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. For comparison, the older Model Y Long-Range AWD can go 311 miles on a single charge, has a top speed of 135 mph and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Deliveries of the new Model Y begin in March. If you still want the older version, pricing starts at $31,490, though keep in mind that the price is increasing by $4,000 in Canada.
